My Morning Routine With A Baby

Babies require a lot of attention and it can be quite challenging to get through the day without struggling. Some days are nice and quiet, some days are a complete chaos! One thing is certain; life with a baby is anything but boring!

My Morning Routine With A Baby

Alice used to be an inconsolable mess with no routine at all and it drove me crazy! It took me a while to create a steady schedule, but I eventually came up with one that works well for the both of us. We’re a lot happier now and enjoy each other's company even more!

"Unlike many adults, who take pleasure in spontaneity and a potentially exciting change of plans, babies enjoy consistency and routine. They like a simple day that is much the same as the one before, where caregiving, tasks of diapering, bathing and feeding happen at an unhurried pace." - Deborah Carlisle Solomon

It’s crucial to create a routine for your baby because it makes them feel safe and secure. Babies love to know what comes next. It will keep them happy and satisfied. We all parent differently, of course, and you need to do what’s best for your child. Establishing a routine is just something I genuinely believe in and it does work for us!

My Morning Routine With A Baby

Our routine

1. Waking up (8:00 a.m.)

Sleeping together makes it a lot easier for the both of us to catch up on some sleep without being interrupted at night. Alice used to sleep quite well before her sleep pattern started to change. She easily slept through the night in her own bed, all wrapped up in her little blanket. Recently, she decided to wake up every 2 hours, which is pretty tough!

Our morning usually begins at 8:00 a.m. when Alice starts playing with a stuffed toy or a pillow and makes the cutest, little sounds to grab my attention. It usually doesn’t take long before I wake up as well. I love to give her loads of kisses and cuddles while she looks at me with the most beautiful smile and shows me how well she can roll over already!

I check my phone and spend some more time with Alice before we decide to get up and make ourselves ready to celebrate the day!

2. Diaper change (8:15 a.m.)

I take her with me to the nursery in the hallway and change her diaper. I also apply some cream to protect her skin against diaper rash. I love to use the zinc oxide cream from Zwitsal because it creates a strong barrier that keeps her skin soft and well protected.

It's time to wash her face with a large cotton pad and some water. She absolutely hates it when I clean her face, so I always try to distract her a little bit with one of her toys. I also use a little bit of cream to hydrate her skin and eventually change her clothes if necessary.

3. Daily chores (8:20 a.m.)

We head off to the living room where I put her in her rocking chair so she can play a little bit on her own while I open the curtains and turn on the radio. Alice absolutely loves her rocking chair! This is probably one of my best purchases ever.

I make sure Alice has everything she needs before I go back to the bedroom to make the beds and collect dirty clothes and towels. Laundry is my least favorite chore, but I try to keep up with it to prevent a whole mountain of it.

After I finished the laundry, it’s time to do the dishes and grab everything I need to prepare some fruit or vegetable puree for Alice. It depends a little bit on what’s on the menu.

4. Breakfast (9:30 a.m.)

Alice loves it when I add some breast milk to the puree to make it a little bit smoother. She doesn’t eat much yet because she still needs to get used to all those different flavors and textures, but she’s doing great and she will get there eventually. I have all the time in the world, so there is no need to rush anything.

We usually have breakfast together and enjoy each other’s company for a while longer before we head back to the bedroom for a nap. She’s pretty tired at this point and I’m more then happy to close my eyes for another hour as well.

5. Time for a nap (10:00 a.m.)

I usually change her diaper for the second time before we head back to bed. I always leave the curtains open during the day because it’s important that she learns the difference between day and night. She also loves a little bit of music on the background.

It’s time to breastfeed her until she closes her eyes and falls asleep, which doesn't take long at all. This is probably my favorite part of the day! We love to snuggle in bed and fall asleep together. This one of those moments I enjoy the most.

She really needs her nap to get through the next few hours. I try to put her in bed at the exact same time every day and let her sleep until she wakes up again. She also loves to sleep in her buggy when we go for a walk to the park or for a stroll to the supermarket. It depends from day to day.

…………………………………………………………………………….

I’m really happy with our morning routine so far. We love to take things easy and do everything at our own pace. That way, we can really enjoy our time together and have a lot of fun!

What is your favorite part of the day?

  1. You are definitely right that babies like routine and predictability. I think this schedule is great- I actually wish I did this more when my daughter was younger.
