Exclusive Interview With Jemma Morgan

Having a baby is one of the most beautiful things in the world and I couldn't be any happier to share this amazing journey on my blog! For today's post, I reached out to another blogger to discuss a few things about motherhood! I had the honor to ask some personal questions to Jemma Morgan - lifestyle blogger, artist and mom - to share some of her thoughts about it on here!

Exclusive Interview With JEMMA MORGAN about motherhood & parenting

About Jemma Morgan

Jemma is a passionate and inspiring woman who writes with a lot of personality on Dorkface, a blog about lifestyle, beauty, parenting and creativity. She gave birth to a beautiful baby boy named River on the 18th November in 2018. Giving birth is a beautiful and life-changing experience, but unfortunately, things didn't exactly go as planned for Jemma! She openly shared her story about the delivery on her blog and explained how badly they have treated her!

"Nobody came and checked on me, nobody ever examined me. We were treated like cattle, all shoved in a room."

"Hi, Jemma! I'm such a huge fan of your work and I'm totally obsessed with your style! I was wondering if I could ask you some personal questions about how it feels to be a mom. I would love to share your thoughts in my next blog post!"

Jemma: "Hi, darling! Of course, ask away!"

"Thank you so much! I feel honored to get to know you a little bit more! How are you today?"

Jemma: "I'm alright, thank you! Feeling nice this evening, but it has been an EXHAUSTING weekend with a teething baby, haha!"

"It's definitely not easy when they start teething, that's for sure! So how do you feel in general? How does it feel to be a mom?"

Jemma: "It feels like... you're experiencing the HAPPIEST, most wonderful moments every single day, while also putting out fires, dealing with exhaustion, and trying to get through it. It's the best job in the world. But it IS a job. And a damn hard one."

"Oh, I totally agree! I quit my job as a shop assistant and became a fulltime mom! I literally have my hands full with my little girl, but I don't regret the choice I've made. They need a lot of care and attention when they're small and I honestly don't know how some people are able to combine their job with a baby!"

"I've read your story about the delivery and it seemed pretty intense because they treated you really bad! Have you been able to process this horrible experience?"

Jemma: "I feel like I've gotten over the worst part now. For the first 3 months afterwards, I couldn't even talk about it without crying! However now, I have enough distance to not feel emotional. I still have the very clear memories, which means I can speak honestly in detail about it. This is both therapeutic and useful I think, as I want more people to be aware of the food and bad things in labor / birth! I will say, even though my labor was horrific, the actual birth - the final 40 minutes pushing him out - was absolutely wonderful! Sure it was painful, but so, so brilliant. I felt powerful and I got to meet him at the end. It was the best moment of my life!"

"The first couple of weeks were probably extremely hectic. You gave birth for the first time and it takes some time to get used to this huge change. How did you experience these first few weeks as a fresh, new mom?"

Jemma: "When I think back to that time, I think of Christmas lights, Gary and I sleeping in shifts because I was too scared to not have one of us awake, even if the baby was asleep and plenty of coffee. I was so in love with our little baby! I had help from my mum too, which made a huge difference! I took a long time to recover physically from the birth and I was in a lot of pain, so I needed all the help I could get!"

"This is actually one of the biggest mistakes I've made after I gave birth myself. I wasn't too eager to ask for help, which made my life so much more difficult! I just wish I wasn't so stubborn! My house was a complete mess, I was a complete mess and I had to take care of my baby, even though I felt horrible!"

"You're a lifestyle blogger and great artist! I really love your paintings! I'm so thrilled to see more of your work and for your shop to reopen! How does it feel to be back on track and to focus on something else?"

Jemma: "Technically I'm on maternity leave and still not working! I won't be officially back until August! I'm just ''working'' whenever I get a spare moment and I'm inspired, which is hard at the moment, so maybe only an hour or two a week at most! But it's so important to me because I love working and creating and it makes me feel like myself. It's good to have a focus away from mum duties!"

"I couldn't agree more! It can be quit exhausting, so it feels amazing to relax and do something different every now and then. What do you love the most about being a mom?"

Jemma: "That burst of love I get every time I see my son smile at me! There is no feeling like it in the whole world. I'd take a bullet for his happiness. And seeing him learn and do new things is just phenomenal!"

"It's amazing to see them grow and develop, isn't it?"

Jemma: "Totally!"

"What are you really looking forward to in the future?"

Jemma: "I'm looking forward to him being a toddler so, so much! I can't wait until we can do arts and crafts together, go on nature walks, have family days out at the beach, picnics and Disney movie marathons. I can't wait!"

"It's exciting! I love spending time with my family as well and I can't wait to spend even more time with them! I would love to ask you one final question. What advice would you give to a new mom?"

Jemma: "Don't do everything yourself! Ask for help wherever you can! It makes such a difference!"

"Thank you so much for answering these questions, I really appreciate it! I'm truly honored and it has been a pleasure to get to know you a little bit more!"

Jemma: "This has been an absolute pleasure, thank you so much!"

I couldn’t agree more with Jemma! Becoming a mom is probably the best thing ever. I really enjoy our time together and I can’t wait to enjoy it even more! It can be quit challenging, that’s true, but it is beautiful and I couldn’t be any happier!
