Warm apple cider is one of those drinks that reminds me of rainy days, cold evenings, cozy blankets and hot sweaters. I love it! It tastes so good and I’m literally obsessed with the smell! It reminds me of apple cinnamon candles, which is my go-to scented candle when the days get colder.
You can find a lot of apple cider recipes on Pinterest. At least, that’s where I got my inspiration from. I’ve tried some different kinds of fruit, changed a few ingredients and discovered the perfect recipe for myself, based on my own personal taste. That’s what I really like about this drink; you can use whatever you want! I can’t take all the credits, of course. Jeremy gave me some advice as well.
Anyway, keep reading if you want to know how I made my own warm apple cider!
Apple cider is a mix of different flavors. It is sweet, sour and spicy at the same time. I wasn’t sure about the lemon because I really love the sweet taste of this drink. I just didn’t want to make it too sour, you know… But don’t worry, you can easily fix this with honey or another sweetener! Anyway, here is a list of the ingredients that I used.
- 2 liters of water;
- 2 apples;
- 1 pear;
- 1 orange;
- half a lemon;
- a piece of fresh ginger;
- 5 tbsp. of honey;
- 1 tbsp. of vanilla extract;
- 1 tbsp. of pumpkin pie spice mix.
I recently wrote a blog post about how you can make your own pumpkin pie spice mix. Check it out! It’s really simple, it doesn’t take much time and the ingredients are easy to find, which is nice. This mix is really important because it adds a lot of flavor to the drink. I mean, it wouldn’t be apple cider without a pumpkin pie spice mix, obviously. Feel free to use 2 tablespoons if you want to make things a bit spicier. I personally prefer to keep it subtle.
This is one of the easiest things I’ve ever made in my life! You don’t need any cooking experience at all, you just need some patience and a few kitchen tools.
- First of all, you need to bring 2 liters of water to a boil.
- Cut the apples, pear, orange, lemon and fresh ginger into slices. Feel free to peel the fruit if you want to.
- Put all your fruit into the water, add the honey, vanilla extract and pumpkin pie spice mix and let it cook for about one hour on a low heat.
Et voilà! This is the perfect drink to treat your guests on a cold day or on special occasions. I mean, who doesn’t like a hot cup of homemade apple cider? Unfortunately, this isn’t really popular in Belgium and I don’t think many people know about this drink. I think the people over here are more obsessed with mulled wine. I personally prefer warm apple cider, hot chocolate milk or a hot cup of tea to keep myself warm!
