DIY Pumpkin Pie Spice Mix

I have never made warm apple cider in my life before. It’s a shame, I know, that’s exactly why I decided to put it in my Fall bucket list. I mean, I just had to try it and, spoiler, it is freaking good! I love it! The smell, the spicy aftertaste, yes, please! I will share my homemade apple cider recipe very soon, but I wanted to talk about something else first. You can’t make your own apple cider without a pumpkin pie spice mix to spice up your hot drink, as you might know. It’s very hard to find the whole mix in Belgium. As far as I know, they don’t really sell it here, that’s why I went looking for the recipe and made it myself!

It’s really simple, it doesn’t take much time, it isn’t expensive at all and the ingredients are massively easy to find, which is amazing. I found the recipe on a Dutch website, check it out! I also want to try out their pumpkin pie spice milkshake, it looks so delicious! Anyway, I thought it would be a great idea to share this DIY as well. It might come in handy, so grab a chair and let’s dive right into it!

spices

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp. of cinnamon;
  • 4 tsp. of nutmeg;
  • 4 tsp. of ginger;
  • 3 tsp. of mace;
  • 1 tsp. of cloves.

I couldn’t find the allspice, so I bought mace instead. Feel free to adjust the quantities of the ingredients to your own taste. If you want more cinnamon, use more cinnamon. It’s your mix!

Note:

I don’t think it’s necessary to explain the instructions, but I do want to add a note. I personally crushed the cloves into smaller pieces to properly mix them together with the other ingredients. This also made it easier to use the spices afterwards.

Some people are totally obsessed with the smell of this pumpkin pie spice mix, but I found it a bit overwhelming. The smell is very sharp and strong. Don’t get me wrong though, it smells amazing, especially the cinnamon! It’s just a bit intense, all these spices together. I found a nice little jar in the back of my cupboard. It’s pretty vintage and it’s just perfect for my mix! My parents gave this to me when I moved out about a year ago.
